The Lullaby Trust aims to promote safer sleep for babies and provides specialist support for bereaved families and anyone affected by a sudden infant death.
The Lullaby Trust has been funding cutting-edge research since 1971. In 1972, the organisation’s Welfare and Information Committee began drafting and circulating informational leaflets for parents and professionals, and delivering the first risk-reduction seminars to doctors, health visitors and midwives. The profile of both the organisation and of Sudden Infant Death began to rise, and donations to fund research grew. To this day, The Lullaby Trust has spent over £11 million on over 265 research projects to identify the mechanisms and risk factors to SIDS.
Extensive research over the past 40 years has lead to a significant reduction in the number of babies dying suddenly and unexpectedly each year. But SIDS has not gone away. This is why The Lullaby Trust has developed a research and awareness-raising strategy with the aim of reducing the number of sudden and unexpected infant deaths by half, by the year 2020.
